  Central Ontario is home to 20 of our hydroelectric facilities, some of which, like our Sills Island Generating Station, have been part of their community for more than one hundred years.
Eastern Ontario

  Eastern Ontario is host to one gas-fired generating station and 15 of our hydroelectric generating stations on the St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers.
Northeastern Ontario

  Northeastern Ontario contains 14 of our hydroelectric stations, including several we built or redeveloped through key partnerships with local Indigenous communities.

Inspiring young women to pursue a career in science

OPG hosting first ever Women in Science conference

Cornwall – Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is hosting it’s first-ever Women in Science Conference, inviting female grade nine and ten students from Cornwall, Ottawa and surrounding area high schools to learn more about the remarkable women leading professional careers in science within their own community.

“Throughout history, women have made important contributions to science and it’s vital that we continue to encourage our younger generation to do just the same,” said Barb Keenan, Senior Vice-President, People, Culture & Chief Ethics. “This conference will provide young women with the opportunity to broaden their horizons, expand their interests, and inspire them to pursue studies in science by meeting women working in such roles.”

The two-day conference will include remarks from inspirational guest speakers followed by breakout sessions that will allow students to engage with prominent women working in science-related fields. The goal of the conference is to provide young women with exposure to a variety of careers in science, and inspire them to pursue studies related to science, technology, and other disciplines.

This year’s conference will be co-chaired by Jane Travers, Vice-President of Strategic Operations and Jessica Polak, Vice-President of Niagara Operations for OPG, who will also be delivering remarks to the students.

OPG is one of the most diverse electricity generators in North America. It produces about half of the electricity Ontarians rely on every day, and its clean, safe, power costs an average of 40% less than other generators.
