OPG cheers on athletes at the 2019 Durham Parasport Games

Competitors at the Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games will be getting an extra boost of support from OPG employees.

The organizers have challenged the community to help support athletes and teams by participating in a “Be the Roar” campaign.

The Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games will take place Feb. 8 to Feb. 10.

As a sponsor, OPG has accepted the challenge to help support the more than 400 athletes competing at this year’s Games. Employees from OPG’s Darlington and Pickering nuclear stations will be cheering on the athletes as well as sending letters of encouragement.

Events in 11 different sports, from wheelchair rugby to sledge hockey, will take place throughout Durham Region and are open to the public. There is no cost to attend.

“OPG employees will be out to show our support for these amazing athletes and provide the roar from the stands,” said Scott Burns, VP Security and Emergency Services at OPG. “We hope the Durham community comes out in full force as well.”

The Games, which take place Friday, Feb. 8, to Sunday, Feb. 10, is supported by the Ontario government and promotes public awareness of parasports while showcasing some of Ontario’s best athletes.
